Why FWA is becoming mainstream

Admin

Compared with the booming global mobile Internet ecosystem brought about by 4G technology, the commercialization of 5G has so far caused little splash. However, we note that fixed wireless access (FWA), a service that has been in development for nearly a decade, is becoming a mainstream trend in the 5G era.

According to the latest figures from Leichtman Research Group, FWA services accounted for 90% of all net additions to broadband customers in the US in 2022, which has had a profound impact on the US market. Ericsson wrote on its website that FWA is now the largest 5G use case in terms of adoption after mobile broadband.

Ericsson estimates that global revenue for FWA service providers will be about $27bn in 2022 and is expected to reach $67bn by 2028, representing a compound annual growth rate of 16%. Separately, A2Z Market Research forecasts that the global 5G FWA market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 39.1% between 2023 and 2030.
